Romantic Elopement in the Distillery District

Distillery District Elopement

The day started out at the Broadview Hotel in Toronto. The bride got ready in their hotel room which had it's own record player and a historic photo of the Broadview Hotel on the wall. The bride's dress, an Emmy Mae gown, hung on the mirror next to the gorgeous wild bouquet created by Belwood Blooms.

Downstairs, the groom got his suit jacket on in the covered terrace of the Broadview under the neon lights as the rain continued to pour down. Now ready to go, the groom was picked up by the wedding planner, Jasmine from All That Jaz Weddings. They headed to the Arta Gallery in the heart of the Distillery District.

After taking some bridal portraits in the room and in the lobby of the Broadview, we headed to the Arta Gallery for the first look. The set up was perfect - the lights were dimmed and Justin was positioned right in front of the old submarine door, waiting in anticipation to see Kristen for the first time. She walked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder and they shared a beautiful moment together.

While the bride and groom took a quiet moment to themselves, Jasmine set up the ceremony space in front of the stone wall and wood mantle with pillar candles everywhere. Kristen and Justin walked down the aisle together and exchanged vows. This ceremony was so romantic, that both Jasmine and myself ended up being the witnesses! Pretty special!

After they were officially married, we ran outside and they yelled "WE JUST GOT MARRIED" - cue all the heart eyes! The people in the streets all clapped and cheered for them as they ran in the rain!

By the way the photo on the left was featured by Beloved Stories!

We popped into to Arvo Coffee shop and took photos snuggling up in the reading nook. Then we toured around the distillery - maybe played a piano. Stopped off at the graffiti wall.

After gallivanting around the historic Distillery District in Toronto, Kristen and Justin ended up at the iconic Harbour 60 for a steak dinner! Such a beautiful night with so many memories!

A few words from the bride and groom....

What was your favourite memory?

We both loved the first look, hands down our favourite part!! I never thought I loved the idea of a first look, or seeing one another before the actual ceremony, but it was so overwhelmingly emotional. For that short moment, I felt like it was just the two of us. I will never ever forget that moment with Justin.

What did you love about your venue?

The venue was perfect. Visually, I loved the artsy industrial vibe of the Arta Gallery. The moment I walked in I felt pure romance and intimacy, which was exactly how I pictured our elopement. The dimmed lighting, candles, soft music and artwork on the walls was perfect. The Distillery District and the Arta Gallery is such a fun, romantic elopement destination. There is endless places for beautiful photo locations and tons of fun things to keep you busy!

What would you recommend for future couples?

A lot of people have questioned us since if we have any regrets about eloping. Our answer is zero regrets. It was perfect and exactly what we wanted. Justin and I wanted our day to be spent enjoying one another, not overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle that a grand wedding can bring. Although beautiful, it wasn’t our vision. With elopement, we got just that. We got the entire day with each other and we were able to take in every moment, from the first look, to an intimate ceremony, to deep, dinner conversation. It was perfect. We had a wedding planner who made it even better. It was a wonderful feeling not having any stress leading up to, or the day of our special day. She was able to bring our vision to life, much better than what we hoped for honestly! That being said, my recommendation is to do whatever feels right to you. The day is about your love for one another, so whether that is a grand wedding, a small back yard gathering or a secret elopement, make sure to take the time to really think about what you want, what is important to you as a couple and how you want to remember your day! There is no wrong way just make sure you’re following your dreams :)
