Tips for an Authentic Family Photoshoot

I have done so many family photo shoots over the past years and I’ve decided that it's time to give you my top four tips to create an authentic family photoshoot! That being said I’m only taking on a few more sessions this summer so please book in ASAP. Knowledge bombs here we go...........

#1 PLAN FOR CHAOS - especially if you have young kiddos! Chaos is good though. It makes for real moments that produce the best and most authentic photos.

#2 LET ME TAKE THE WHEEL! Sometimes it gets tough for kids to have so many directions at one time. Let me take over and get your kids to create some magic.

#3 PICK A SPECIAL PLACE - honestly, the best shoots are in-home sessions! It’s more than likely that you’ll feel the most comfortable in your own home.

#4 MOVEMENT IS KEY - we all love those classic posed Sears family photos, but the realest moments are when we are doing things together. Connect with each other - have books to read or a game to play! If something doesn’t work we just keep moving and try something new! Just keep swimming, as Dory says ;)

"My family and I just received the photos from our most recent at-home photo session with Lydia. I found myself tearing up as I looked through the photos as I could not believe how beautifully Lydia was able to capture the personality of our (very busy!) one-year old son. The minute she arrived at our home, she was able to connect with our son and make him feel completely at ease with her. She had him laughing and smiling within minutes! We decided to change the location of the photo shoot to our home at the last minute, and I could not be happier with the pictures. They truly capture the essence of our daily lives- playing in the backyard, reading books, climbing up and down the front steps, running around the house...the most beautiful candid shots and moments that we will be able to treasure forever. Thank you Lydia! You truly have a special gift."

"Lydia is an absolute dream to work with! We recently had a newborn in home photo session which included our energetic 2 year old and Lydia worked her magic and captured the most beautiful photos.

Lydia made everyone feel so relaxed and she was very patient with our little ones. She is incredible with kids and has a way of always making them smile! We absolutely love the photos and will continue to use Lydia to capture our family memories for years to come!"
